RE: DURO Tires

DocP,
Having never experienced a (trailer) flat tire while driving, when did you notice you had a problem?

RE: SAF-TT tire pressure monitors

Has anyone had to put a claim into Truckers Parts Store for a lost/stolen sensor? If so, did they replace it free of charge?

RE: DURO Tires

Filled the flat tire today and it seems to be holding air. I tried the soapy water trick but no leaks. What I did find was a missing TPMS sender (external screw on type) from the tire next to the one that had the flat. I didn't notice it missing when changing the tire but I did notice not getting a reading. By the time I got home I forgot all about it until today. If the air holds my working theory will be someone was trying to remove them in the night and managed to get one but only got as far as loosening the other which allowed the air to leak out.

RE: DURO Tires

well, I think I jinxed myself when I posted the other week about not having any issues with my Duros. I woke up Sunday morning to find a flat. I know it wasn't flat when I pulled in because I use the Bal wheel chocks and the tire was fully inflated. Not fun changing a tire on wet uneven grass. After removing the tire I expected to find a nail or something sticking out of the tire but found nothing. I had posted my valve stems had cracking so maybe that's the issue. I hoping to fill and test the tire this this week.

RE: SAF-TT tire pressure monitors

There doesn't seem to be any logic to their shipping delays. I ordered my 4 tire set back on 5/16 and it shipped the same day. Maybe it has to do with the number of sensors in the order ;) I did have one sensor begin giving erratic readings but it seems to be OK now. Though I think I'll get it replaced before it does it again.

RE: Advice on Tow vehicle choices

We haven't had any issues towing with our Explorer (7k lbs rating) and our TT weighs 5k lbs with water. We do keep the speed to around 60 mph. Pay attention to what the rear axle gear ratio is.

I was thinking of installing something like this for ours

RE: VT Campgrounds off of 91

We've stayed at Quechee SP many times and like it very much. The sites are level and good in size with plenty of privacy between sites. There's a nice path that leads down to the gorge as well as a country store and restaraunt across the street.

RE: MA: Bayview Campground (Bourne)

We also like Nickerson. Because it's a state park you don't have all the extras that you get with a private one. We (as most I suspect) stay at Nickerson because it's on the bike path which it a great path if you like biking. You could spend the day just making use of their internal paths.

RE: DURO Tires

We have 2 yrs and about 2500 miles on our Duros and the tires themselves look OK (even wear and no cracks) but the valve stem are another matter. Cracking at the base on all four stems. Only one tire seems to have a very slow leak; around 5 psi/month.

RE: using my Ford Escape as a TV

I'll add my .02, having towed a 3000 lbs popup (fully loaded w/ H2O) with my '02 Escape without issues the power to get going is there, but towing a TT might be too much due to the increased wind resistance at 60 MPH. With that said, I saw the other week an '07(ish) Escape pulling a Kiwi hybrid TT up a good size hill and it didn't seem to be having any trouble. Speed must have been around 45 MPH which was the limit for this road.

RE: Hello all!!

As to MPG, expect something in the range of 8-10. We average 9 if kept around 60 MPH.

RE: Hello all!!

Congratulations! We had upgraded as well a couple of years ago and very happy with the move. It did take a few trips to get use to the size of the box behind us (think wide turns and low branches) as well as the drop in MPG, but the setup/tear down is so much quicker. We now enjoy camping later into the season and the joy of having a bathroom when camping in areas with no facilities can't be overstated. We did add a backup camera with night vision to help getting into sites. If you have tandem axles get yourself either the Bal wheels chocks (that's what we have) or others swear by the Rotochocks; it stablizes the trailer quite a bit.

RE: Help I need tires !

Titan tire has radials in that size/load range. Go to http://www.titan-intl.com/content/titan-tire and click "Titan Trailer Components" (this opens a PDF). I believe they are also US made!

RE: Bike Rack Advice Needed

I also have the bumper bolt-on adapter that I use with an Allen 4 bike rack. I've only towed with 3 bikes a few times but I do tie them down to the rack and the bumper to reduce movement. To date I haven't had any issues or damage.

RE: TT Bed Problem, any ideas?

Forgive me but I have to ask, was the trailer (ie floor) level when you placed the level on the bed platform? What about raising the tongue by 1". If you're saying the head is sagging due to weight and lack of strength of the framming then you're only real fix is to place a box frame under the sagging part or to replace the platform with thicker/stronger material. Pictures would help us "see" the problem.

RE: Saf-Tee / Saf-TTE tire monitor

Another bad sensor to report. It's reading about 15 psi higher than actual, even when removed from the tire. How are the new monitors different than the ones currently shipping?

RE: Cold showers

I guess I get the prize. I get a few seconds of cold followed by a few seconds of hot before it stabilizes, so mine would first chill you just before it scalds you :). Pointing the head towards the wall is the fastest, easiest and cheapest fix and it's what I do.

RE: Dutchmen Freedom Spirit FS180

We bought ours in Aug '06 ('07 model) for roughly $12K. Ours was fully loaded with the bunk above the double bed for my son. This way we could stay up and use the table while he went to bed. The coach does fold down but it would have been less private (as privacy goes in a 20' box). The bathroom is small so using the toilet will be tight. The shower with skylight is just roomy enough so I don't have to duck (I'm 6'1"). Our shower floor is just that, not those small tub units. The "privacy" curtain is useless so I removed it and placed a wooden rod across the bed/dinning wall to above the closet door and hung a curtain panel. Our privacy curtain is much more usable and give a place to change outside the bathroom. We also installed a Maxair vent cover over the bathroom vent and keep that vent open 24/7/365. I wished they had installed another vent in the dining area for better air flow. I may do it myself someday. We love the size of the awning since it about as long as the trailer. Be aware the door can't latch open due to the awning support when the awning is extended. We just bungee the door to the awning support to keep any wind from blowing it closed. Fully loaded with water we weighed it at 5K lbs. Other mods include mounting a backup camera with night vision, power tongue jack, digital thermostat and a TPMS system. The only problem we've had is the output side of the water pump came loose our first night. I just had to lock the fitting into place and it's never happened again.
